Purpose of Position:
Enhance the development and delivery of government programs, policies and projects through the provision of transportation sector and other sectoral infrastructure expertise for various levels of government, business and industry to improve sustained economic growth and productivity in northern Ontario.

Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Providing advisory and consultative services for public and private sector to develop/ establish infrastructure projects eg. transport goods and to promote industrial growth in the most effective/economic manner by analyzing and interpreting data, undertaking feasibility analyses, and reviewing business development strategies in order to access market opportunities.

2. Analysing and evaluating transportation programs and other sector infrastructure policies and initiatives to ensure efficient and effective deployment of resources to meet northern Ontario needs; identifying and evaluating opportunities to maintain and develop viable infrastructure facilities, services and systems (e.g. rail, road, air, marine, inter-modal and service, abandonments; sewage and water facilities/ distribution systems)

3. Promoting, marketing and delivering government programs, providing guidance to clients in development of proposals and business cases by evaluating submissions and undertaking analysis, developing options, project monitoring, making payment recommendations and undertaking post-project evaluations.

4. Conducting research and analyses on a range of specialized transportation and other infrastructure issues in northern Ontario by determining scope of research required and the technical parameters and methods of research appropriate to assigned program/policy issues; providing recommendations, advice and information to senior ministry officials regarding the alteration of existing or the development of new government policies and programs.

5. Liaising with SuperBuild, MOE, MMAH, OMAFRA, MTO and other ministries regarding technical matters and policy development for infrastructure funding initiative. Participating in the inter-ministerial review of all Northern projects, including analysis of the need for the project, technical quality and innovation, cost efficiency, partnership contributions, financial plan and capital asset plan

6. Consulting with senior ministry officials, other ministry staff (corporate policy, finance, trade & investment marketing, economic development, field operations and mines), representatives of other ministries, governments (federal, regional, municipal, First Nations), private industry and the general public to direct, guide and coordinate the provincial governments` response to mutual issues, trends, and interests, identifying constraints and opportunities affecting economic development.

7. Representing or acting on behalf of the Ministry on steering committees, interministerial task forces, conferences and other development meetings with central agencies, line ministries, federal and municipal governments, First Nations, industry and business officials.

8. Providing back-up to other programs and services staff during periods of absences, work overload or when requested by supervisor.
