As part of the planning process for the class environmental assessment for activities of the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry (MNDMF) under the Mining Act, a terms of reference was submitted to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) for review as required under the Environmental Assessment Act. If approved, the terms of reference will serve as a framework for the preparation and review of the class environmental assessment for the proposed undertaking.

Those MNDMF activities under the Mining Act that are subject to the Environmental Assessment Act will be grouped into classes. The proposed class environmental assessment will comprise two classes of activities: discretionary decisions related to surface rights, mining rights and chattels; and ministry-administered mine rehabilitation activities.

The proposed Terms of Reference is being made available for public review and comment from May 6 to June 6, 2011
