Message: Re: Quebec funding new all weather road - OT (remembrances!)

"...It is expected that the Route 167 will be constructed as a 260 km-long, 70 km/hour two lane gravel-top highway under the supervision of the Quebec Ministry of Transport. The road will be designated as a multi-service provincial highway connecting Renard to the end of the current Route 167 at Lac Albanel (Temiscamie)..."

I find it funny that my most memorable summer jobs were spent at the very end of this Route 167, at the tip of the Temiscamie River. I was lucky enough to be there for 3 years in a row! To the 18 years old montrealer I was, this place seemed like the World's End!

Our Camp was the GQ of many exploration companies, and I remember sharing beers and laughers with bush pilots, engineers, gelogists, firemen, and other workers around big firecamp parties!

My best friend there was a Cree worker, with whom I went fishing at night at secret spots for 3-pound trouts (maybe 2 perhaps, but I like to believe they were 3!). I learned from him my first English words (and some cree-language expressions I would be banned if I'd dare to translate here!). Among many exciting things, he also teached me how to hunt a partridge with a fishing rod, and how to find my way back to the camp without any compass - knowing that the spruces tend to lean eatsward, like our shadows at the sunset, and that creeks are the path to follow since they always run for the lake or the river down the mountain!

Sorry for this short moment of nostalgia! I know my actual portfolio is heavily colored (too much?) with explorcos because of these early northern encounters with the boys up there, with whom I formed a tight family every summer...
