Last year there was relatively little coverage or talk of the blockade and then boom.... it happened.....then came the media. This year we have all manner of sticks stirring the fire. Makes good press eh? Don't quite understand how on one hand we have NOT doing well with the FN involved and then there are others, some no doubt with questionable motivations as is always the case with humans. A balance must be struck between those living in the environment and those wishing to extract from it. It certainly won't be an easy thing. Bottom line though is that if the companies walked away the FN would be very unhappy with their leadership as they would just have to continue on as they always have been....poor roads, supply lines, expensive commodities.....yada yada...essentially a difficult existance comparitively. On the other hand, can you see the companies giving up the land rights....not likely. There'd be lots of others waiting for that chance who would be happy to negotiate with the FN for a mutually beneficial situation. The language from the companies was cool initially for likely very good reasons, so as not to throw gas on the greed fire. Now the gov't gets in there and, using it to pump up their election campaign, has done exactly that. Now the FN figure they've got everyone over a barrel. The coming days will be very interesting. In the interim, everyone with an interest will be using what ever tools they have to get what they want. What a doneybrook this will be.
