Message: Who gets the smelter???????

There have been a number of news articles and posts regarding who should get the smelter, and why.

If it is going to be in Ontario, there appears to be 5 front running locations.

Thunder bay---Nakina--- Timmins---Sudbury--- SSMarie.

If it is a Cliffs decision, then obviously it will be a business decision of dollars and cents.

If it is a government decision(political) they could have some influence on Cliffs decision.

IMO, there appears to be two major issues, one is transportation costs and the other is electricity availability and costs.

Transportation issues. To supply the North American market only.

1)Build a rail line from Nakina to the ROF--- $600 million????

2)Operator would need approx 16 Locomotives and approx 550-600 gondola cars---$70 million????

3)Operate 5- 100 car trains a week.

4)Price per carload

From Nakina to Thunder Bay= $5,000

From Nakina to Sudbury = $ 3,300

From Nakina to Timmins = $ 4,000

From Nakina to SSMarie = $ 3,500

From Nakina to Nakina =$ 0000

These numbers are all estimations.

Obviously when looking at these numbers, it would appear that the logical location would be Nakina first and SSMarie second.

Have to go out , and I will continue this post later.

Tks RR
