If the motivation for the manipulation is NOT in aid of a low-price takeover, what else could it be?
A while back, there was a well-written post by? describing a scenario where "good old boys" from the Cliffs entourage (not necessarily Cliffs Officers/Managers, but perhaps major shareholders, were sitting in a New York club hatching plans to get the Noront price down -- either out of misguided fun or spite, or to pave the way for a takeover by Cliffs. Somehow that one seems to fit, though I suppose it could be any major or hedge fund afficianado of same.
Regardless, it's extremely frustrating and has gone on far too long. Some posters have said "they can't hold it down forever", but if so, what does it take to end it? And how long might we have to wait for this to happen?
If you're happy with, say, a five-year plus hold, I suppose it doesn't matter, but for me I am working day-by-day to get my portfolio value up.
Again, Happy New Year to all Noront longs! May we strike huge PMs and PGEs in 2011! (rich and extensive nickel hit will do, also).
