Good morning BJ: Unfortunately all animals do that, including humans ugh. Once in the Bacatetes - the land of the Yaquis - I was with a few people checking data from the last revolution of the 30's when one of our party managed to become lost.
After looking for him for 2 days, our water ran out. The only water availble in many kilometers was a catchment, earth damn about 2 kilometres away. It was that or none.
Since we were extremely worried about our lost member, he was very over weight, out of condition, and supposedly had been out of water for two days, we didn'[t have the luxury of time to go to the other water hole, so we decided to use the dam- n water.
It was shallow and the wild cattle, deer, and other animals used it. The big cows would wade about knee deep, drink, and at the same time eliminaitng the last used lot back into the water for recycling. Sheesh did it smell. We tried boilin git for 2 hrs at night, nothing, it still smelled like XXXX There was nothing that we could do would make it psychologically drinkable, it still smelled like cow p----. but it was all that we had.
We found our man alive, but I wonder if he ever appreciated what we had to do for him ???
Incidentally . the unwritten law with me in the bush is that 'each is responsible for the other and we do not leave an area until every one is accounted for. Three times that has paid of with saving a life. In this case drinking recycled animal p-- for a few days was worth it. You bush people will know exactly what I mean.
