Message: The 2nd ROF Golf Classic Highlights - Part One

To my surprise and excitement, the underdogs at 20-1, Team Strato won the 2nd Annual ROF Golf Classic, in another exciting playoff to determine the winner, with Strato-Team star, Jim Voisin, sinking the winning playoff putt !

Team Strato & Team Trace both shot 3-under par 68's on an absolutely gorgeous sunny day at Hidden Lake. Team Corndog was next at 69, followed by Team Wiebe & Team Shakey at even par 71. Team Brattymack couldn't make any putts all day (I heard) and finished last, with 77.

But Jim Voisin, Chauncey Gardiner (Uncle Brent), from Winnipeg and Goldfinger (Wally), from FLA, supported old Strato all day long. It was a complete team effort. I certainly never expected it, with Jim only playing golf once a year and this being Goldfinger's 2nd game in 15 years. But Chauncey Gardiner started hitting some shots after the first few holes (just about when my game collapsed, lol), then Goldfinger found something in his swing from 15 years ago and then our expert putter, Jim, drained a couple of birdie putts that got us going. And then Jim won it for us in the playoff.

Thanks to Jim Voisin, Brent (ChaunceyGardiner) & Wally (Goldfinger), for a wonderful day on the course. Enough about Strato though, there's more to tell......

Like the great playing of Team Trace - Trace (Darren), BLEAF (Steve), Plumber13 (Kent) & Mrs. Plumber (Rebecca), to tie for the playoff. Team Trace & Team Strato were tied from the 13th hole, right to the end.

And Helen, alias Mrs. LTGoldBull, who was the star of Team Corndog, using a remarkable 15 of her 18 tee shots. Big hitting Corndog had a tough day and only one of his bombs were used.

Team Shakey produced the only Eagle of the day, reaching the par five, 15th in two and then draining the eagle putt.

As the Strato-Stats on the scorecards were incomplete on a few cards, I'll only provide what was obvious.

Least putts was won by TeamWiebe, taking only 22 putts for the day. Ya okay, they only hit 4 greens in regulation. Most FW hit (on tee shots), was an amazing 12 of 13, by Team Shakey. Most greens in regulation could not be determined.

Longest Strato-Drive for the Men was won by Trace (Darren) and the Closest to the Strato-Pin was won by Brattymack (Brad). These two lucky guys got to take home the best prizes of the day, with each getting a custom-made Scotty Cameron Putter, both generously donated by HerbertWiebe (Herb) and his wife Pam.

Longest Strato-Drive for the women was won by Herbert's wife Pam again this year and Pam also won Closest to the Strato-Pin, but this prize was awarded to Mrs. LTGoldBull (Helen), for her stunning performance for Team Corndog.

Although the best prizes were the putters, they weren't necessarily the most significant ones. Chauncey Gardiner (Brent) attended the 2010 Masters Goflf tournament in Augusta, in April of this year. He emailed me and told me that he had picked up some stuff from The Masters and was sending it to me.

Inside the box that was sent : A Digger to repair ball marks on the green, & a ball marker, from the Pro Shop, with the 2010 official masters insignia. It didn't stop there. he also sent me some pine cones that had fallen underneath the Eisenhower Tree on # 17 at Augusta. "Uncle" Brent crawled under the ropes, ran into the fairway, grabbed the cones and ran back, luckily without getting kicked off the course, lol !

I also received a Spectators Guide and a slightly used Masters Beer Cup. But the last item in the box, he purchased for the winners of the 2nd ROF Classic. And that was an official 2010 Masters ball marker for each of the winning team.

But to my surprise, I was on the winning team ! And so was Uncle Brent. So each of us donated our ball markers to two of the major prize contributors of the tournament. I presented the ball markers to Herbert Wiebe and George from Agoracom.
