My opinion is that the blockade had little to do with the companies in the Ring. Some
of these companies may have abused the environment with empty oil drums or even some spillage plus some unhealthy practices due to them being there and operating but I doubt that was the main contributing factor for the blockade, merely an excuse.
The main cause is the question of land ownership in the light of development occuring and slow response of government to allow the natives to benefit from that development.
Unfortunately the natives have chosen to beat up on the companies instead of taking
the action to Queen's Park. After all it is cheaper for them to blockade locally instead of in Toronto.
I conclude that the local blockades hurt the reputation not only of the companies but of the native people's themselves. Thus this acts to slow down investment in the region, the very opposite to what is intended.
