I hope that this private member's motion makes it beyond the time the echo will clear the House of Commons. Canadians have a long history of selling themselves out too soon, then having to buy back the products at a higher cost. Keeping the $300M threshold in place is important, if for no other reason than to slow things down as the sale moves through Parliament.
However, it was the union that pushed too hard, as usual. Demading higher wages so that your salary equals a totally unrelated profession is not a reason to go on strike. The power of unions have done more harm than good over the last 30 years. When GM was forced to pay $30 an hour for someone to perform work that had no skill, wages across the country were thrown out of kilter. On top of that, the pension demands, etc. No wonder the entire 'golden' triangle is in turmoil now.
Keeping up with the Jones shouldn't come at the cost of a company's ability to make a profit. If you feel that you should have a piece of that profit, then invest in the company. Or, if you really want to earn what the Jones are making, then maybe a change in vocation is called for.
Rant done, lol
