So who's next from the corporate raider, Cliffs. Clearly, their mandate is corporate raiding and not mining, at least in Canada anyways.
I guess what bothers me the most is that our government has stood by and let this happen. And I now wonder if the government of this province has been 'taken care of', by certain corporate raider interests.
It wouldn't surprise me, as there is a history of American interference in Canadian politics. Avro Arrow comes to mind immediately. And Free Trade. And the softwood lumber deal. The list goes on and on.
So where does it stop ? Well, for me, it stops at Noront. Cliffs will not steal this one away for a song. NOT's gonna cost them and quite possibly, Cliffs is very well aware of this fact.
Afterall, they have picked up the bulk of the Chromium in the ROF for 1.19 a share in total. Now they enough cash left to pay a premium price for NOT, if that in fact is in their plans.
But wait a minute here, am I giving a corporate raider credit ? Not at all, believe me. It's that Noront's management & BoD is far superior to that of FWR & SPQ. And they are all relatively new to the company, as opposed to FWR's & SPQ's teams.
Another thing.... I remember Richard Nemis saying that having more JV's would make it much more difficult for a major to take out the lot. Well, it may have been an inconvenience for Cliffs to do this, but they have 2/3 of the huge Big Daddy deposit sewn up already.
And who prompted all that ? Well, in our eyes it was NOT's bid for FWR. But maybe there's a back door arrangement that Cliffs and NOT made to start the consolidation of the ROF. If you take a look at NOT's BoD, there's a few people there with specifically that type of expertise (consolidations, that is).
So I don't think we should be too worried. By default, we should see a decent payout when all is said and done.
This is all just a........
