Not so much. The electronic overrides set to react to preset swings up or down is what triggered the massive drop because it happend very fast and recovered very fast when cooler heads prevailed. If the market had slowly slip 1000pts that is a different picture. These days, electronic trading accounts for the set ups and result in over exagerated moves as computers kick in.
