And in record setting fashion to boot !
Yep, the official Olympic Medal count has Canada as # 1, as we have the most Gold medals, with 13 and hopefully the 14th later today. Nobody can pass us at any rate.
No other host country has won this many Gold medals before in the Winter Games. AND should...ahem, when, Canada wins the Gold in Men's Hockey today, she will SET the RECORD for the most Gold medals EVER WON at any Winter Games ! (We are currently tied with Norway & the former USSR).
Now how about that, Canada !
All the North American media are showing the total medals, which is an unofficial count and was introduced during the 2002 Salt Lake City games, by the US media (no offence intended to USA).
But the European media is showing the correct, official standings and has Canada as the leader. Here then are the official medal standings, with two events remaining today. There were 26 out of 86 countries participating, that medalled in these Vancouver/Whistler Winter Olympics. The same number of countries medalled in Torino, in 2006, when 80 countries attended.
Canada is the winner of the 23rd Winter Games !!
