Nakina and Exton

Just got in from work, and here is a liitle bit of info from the Nakina and Exton area.

Exton is located approximately 4 miles west of Nakina. Buchanan Lumber owns a mill at Exton, which is presently closed down.

Some of you may recall there was a post out (cannot remember from whom) about Cliffs/KWG/Canada Chrome possibly purchasing this mill, to operate out of and for staging their supplies.

In addition there was apparently two proposed routes for the rail line. One being east of Nakina and one being west of Nakina. The west route was supposed to be the preferred route, as it followed the eskers.

As I was travelling through Exton-Nakina I noticed that a substantial amount of brush and trees were removed on the north side of our rail line, at Exton. One of the track employees I know, was inspecting our train, and I asked him if this had to do with the new rail line and his answer was yes. There has been quite a bit of line cutting going on for the last month or so.

In addition, two restaurants which had previously closed when the mill closed, have been reopened.

As well they may be looking at extending the landing strip at Nakina.

Things appear to be progressing.
