Sculpin, they don't mention the permanent airstrip because it's not part of the blockade, the release specified the ice strip on Koper Lake. I can't and won't say that the blockade actions will not affect Noront, unfortunately the reality is that it could should Wes need to get anything large into the area by Hercules aircraft as a Herc can not land at the permanent strip. Hopefully the history between NOT and MFL will give Wes some breathing room with getting done what needs to be done. The ice strip is a crucial part of the resupply program, of fuel inparticular and imo this will add increased costs associated with the resupply of fuel for the camps. Having said that the permanent strip can acccomodate light to intemediate aircraft so we are not without access, the other thing to keep in mind is that Marten Falls Logistics ( the Blockade group ) was the contractor responsible for the construction of the permanent airstrip, there's good background there with NOT, if memory serves correct both NOT and FWR worked together getting the strip complete using the inhouse bulldozers.
We need to keep of sound mind these days playing the ROF, its not a friendly place and imo the timing of this action as we head into the home stretch of an attempt at a takeout of an ROFer by Cliffs raises a few eyebrows, looking like its going to come down to shareholder action once again. This latest bit from the Marten Falls Logistics folks is indicative of the types of things that can and will creep up and bite your arse if you go out and play on the land with out consultations. Look for an immediate attempts by those affected to try to mitigate the situation , its just amazing how fast meetings and consultations can be set up when access to the Ring is denied.
