With all due respect, you are not the only person alive with years of labour relations knowledge and experience.
To this I say.....same goes for you. You come accross as some sort of a spokesperson for "most" Sudbarians. I would respectfully prefer to speak for myself.
I will add...on one hand you mention how lucrative the wages of the workers are; then you go on to mention how some are on the verge of bankruptcy....and the hungry children and all....to that, you put blame on the union? There are many others who are as prepared as the company to go to battle for what they deem is fair and just.....and in Canada we continue to have that right.
It certainly is difficult when we must compete with contries like China and Russia. At the same time, thousands die yearly in mining disasters in these other nations and their pay is poor. I will continue to believe that they should become more like us, rather then for us to become more like them.
If companies like Vale can't compete here in Canada, they have the option to leave our resources in tact and go operate in Brazil, China, and Russia....they will come back once they've stripped those lands, polluted their air, and violated their peoples.
You need only look to Wal Mart to see how companies without the benefit of unions fair with respect to wages and benefits.
My own opinion....other Sudbarians are welcome to speak on their own behalf
