The Ontario government wants more input on how the regulations inside the new and improved Mining Act amendments will work on the ground.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry wants First Nation, Metis and industry people, as well as the general public, to attend a series of meetings from January to June, 2010. No exact dates or locations were released.

The government has a downloadable workbook to “guide” public comments during these consultations.

The new Mining Act, which became law Oct. 28, includes Aboriginal consultation with a dispute resolution process, exploration plan and permit requirements, map staking, protection of cultural significant sites, a prospectors awareness program and provisions for the withdrawal of Crown-held mineral rights on private land.
