Rocklicker: Very interesting. I can't see why they would be against some oversight. I like paragraph two: "Canadian mining firms have endured weeks of shocking accusations on Parliament Hill in testimony regarding Bill C-300. Under the private member's bill, the federal government would be able to investigate Canadian resource companies' actions in foreign countries and deny taxpayer-funded financing to firms that violate human rights or environmental standards."
I should call John McKay and give him my take as I spent some time in the DRC.
The Pole Institute based in the DRC, (Democratic Republic of the Congo), put out a report (about 2003-4) alleging oil companies needed to be monitored. (I can't quote from the book as I loaned it to Hoov - but I think that was the context).
However, for decades Companies have raped the DRC with impunity. Read, King Leopold's Ghost, if you want to know more about company abuses. ( That was a long time ago but not much has changed).
It's all about money. We're seeing the same thing in the companies that are attempting to rape the retailers of the ROF.
I think this is relevant but if anyone wants to move it to OT, thats OK with me.
Gleegee.
