Production shut down at all Vale operations in Canada

Vale Inco stopped production at its Thompson, Manitoba nickel mine and processing plant Aug. 1 for scheduled maintenance, according to media reports.

This brings its entire Canadian nickel operations to a halt. Workers at the company's Sudbury operations have been on strike since July 13, and workers at its Voisey's Bay, Newfoundland operations have been on strike since Aug. 1.

The production shutdown in Thompson is expected to last until Sept. 1.
