Oh, well. Such is life. *I* sure wouldn't do that (I don't short stocks and I sure as heck wouldn't short NOT, even if I did short!), but it's his life/money. My guess is that some parties have an interest in trying to stir things up amongst the RoF participants, if for no other reason than to get some cheap press and more public interest. What-everrr.
