but that isn't going to stop me from tossing around some ideas for the heavyweights to discuss.
Although I haven't much time to spare for the forum these days, I still mull things over in my mind about the geology of the area. From the beginning, I wondered if the Sturgeon Lake caldera was a not-too-distant cousin of the ROF, seeing that from a geological perspective, it is not all that far from the ROF if one were to consider the entire area might once have been a hot spot, mantle plume, island-arc etc, etc.
I'm not saying that is the case, and as a matter of fact, we know there were at least two distinct events in the genesis of the ROF which further deepens the mystery.
So....I ran across some articles about the Sturgeon Lake caldera which bear some resemblance to our ROF, and I do look forward to hearing some opinions on the matter; what is similar, what is not. Deposits are like fingerprints: though there might be similarities, each is unique in and of itself.
