The union at Xstrata Copper Canada's Horne Smelter in Rouyn-Noranda voted 87 per cent in favour of an agreement in principle for the renewal of a collective agreement.
The collective agreement was hammered out between executives of the union, known as the Syndicat des travailleurs de la Mine Noranda - CSN, and company officials.
Salary increases are featured in the new collective agreement, which on average includes 3.1 per cent for the first year, 2.8 per cent for the second year, and 2.7 for the third year.
Other key issues of the agreement include the facilitation employee recall versus subcontracting, more flexibility for vacation and holiday usage, and an improvement of the pension plan.
The Horne Smelter has the capacity to process 800,000 tonnes of copper and precious metal-bearing materials per year.
