I agree with you wholeheartedly K, the only thing you may not consider enough though is active traders with long positions. I am one of them who holds a long position and trades and today was a very good day for trading. I would ask anyone who day traded some shares today to click on this post just to have an idea of how many traders we have. The difference with me vs most day traders is at the end of the day they are dumping their shares while I am making sure I have my full position back. When having a good day I usually have more than my full position as I take my profits in extra shares.

When you see TD volume so high, think that much of that may come from members that are here on Agoracom as this is one of the most used retail trading platforms.
