Talked to a contact in Webequie about the current status of the ice roads.
The Band does the portion from Webequie to Landsdown house and the Band from Pickle does the road into Landsdown house.
Currently in the area water is running off the roofs in town , last week they had -19 or so which made for good ice on the lake. Unless they see a real cooling with prolonged temps to get out and get the snow off the ice to build up ice it will be a while before a road into camp is made, the overland sections are quite simple to build. The problem right now is its too damn warm.
Webequies fairly quiet except for NOTs choppers flying in and out all the time. Nice to hear they are on the move, means things are moving along. The ice conditions are such that its use at your own risk, currently, if ones brave enough the ice will support a 3/4 ton, he was out yesterday for quite a ways overland and on ice with his 4X4. Says he wishes gas was cheaper, $2.69 a litre. He and the rest of the community are eagerly anticipating cold freezing temps. I wish them all the cold they can get.
