Given the complete radio silence we're operating under in regards to Windfall, all that is left for us to do is toss around ideas.
I can't see this project being a cast-off, an albatross around the neck. In fact, I think it may well be the opposite.
When Rosseau and pals first entered into the PP with Noront, it was post-Windfall, not pre. So having conducted their due diligence, researched the company, and having been apprised of all the projects, McFaulds and others, they were not going in blind. They knew full well the ramping project and the cost allocated to it.
Simply put, I think they have been reading too many flyers and watching too many TV ads, and they thought they were going to get a "BOGO" Buy One, Get One free.
I've been to a lot of auctions in my day, and they're a great place to people-watch, and study human greed and behavior. Especially the car auctions. This is what the current state of affairs reminds me of. When a really smokin' hot vehicle enters the auction area, it's not enough that folks want a good deal, they want a STEAL of a deal. But unfortunately, they all act the same in the end. They look over the car, find a minor scratch in the paint, and point it out to their fellow bidders, and turn up their noses at it. Then when the bidding begins, not a single bidder joins in. The price goes down, people stand around pretending to be disinterested, and no one bids. The auctioneer brings the bid down to a ridiculous level and then EVERYONE jumps in and pushes the price up higher than what they were prepared to pay originally as their top price because since THEY didn't get a smokin' deal, they don't want anyone else to either.
It's not a perfect analogy, but it's what comes to mind for Windfall for me. Bay Street is a one-trick pony: act and say the opposite of what you actually want and/or intend to do.
So when they say Windfall is a waste of time and money, pay attention when they want to bring in folks from another gold play. And when Irwin says "There are no more suckers on Bay Street", is he implying that he himself was a sucker? I doubt it. If you've been suckered at a game of 3 card Monte, do you try to horn your way into the operation of the street hustler? I don't think so.
But of course, I have no more knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes than anyone else here: for all I know, Windfall could very well be sold already. But I don't think it'll just vanish without a trace, we'll be hearing more about it eventually.
