I imagine most of you have seen the news on Agoracom's opening page about George Soros purchasing about 5% of a phosphate mining project. This is very interesting.
George Soros, in the U.S., is, among the investing knowledgeable, about as high profile as Warren Buffet (who recently purchased a large position in General Electric). Soros made a lot of money as being a contrarian investor, which gained him fame for being able to see the future movements of the markets better than most. The fact that he's just sunk a lot of dollars into a commodity stock, even a mining stock, is helpful to mining stocks in general. Why?
Lots of individuals and large funds are, at the moment, heavily cashed up, having sold their positions in many stocks, to take cash positions until the volatility of the markets moderate. In the meantime, they are looking around, trying to figure out the best way to deploy their capital, in order to make some gains for themselves or their clients.
The fact that this respected, well-known, investor, George Soros, invested a huge chunk of capital into a phosphate mining company is going to cause a lot of analysts and investment advisors to start looking at the future of commodities, and, in particular, metallurgical/mining commodities. We and our fellow exploration/mining companies are likely to start getting a good "looking over", and be the subject of a lot of due diligence research.
Obviously, since Noront is so severely undervalued on a simple fundamental basis, we, compared to other more risky ventures, are more likely to appear on the radar screen as an investment opportunity 'par excellance'. I mean, if you look at the proven/probable/inferred resources or most junior explorers, they don't come anywhere close to what we have (which is probably a reason Noront was selected as the top stock on the TSX Venture Exchange for the last year).
As the U.S. dollar crumbles in value, due to the recent bailout plan and the continued inflationary printing up of many more U.S. dollars, Americans, seeing their money becoming progressively worth less, will look into investment opportunities that will at least preserve the value of their present assets, and possibly increase the value. They will start to consider what George Soros has, commodities, and particularly, companies that are exploring and/or mining commodities for which the world has a continued demand.
