Chromex increases planned production rate

Thursday , 02 Oct 2008

Chromex Mining plc, the AIM listed dedicated chrome company, concluded its first sale of 8,500 tonnes of chrome lump, chip and fines on 26 September 2008, achieving an operating profit in its first month of production. In addition, Chromex has increased its planned run-of-mine (‘ROM') output from the Stellite mine to 70,000 from 30,000 tonnes per month (‘tpm') at full production, expected to be achieved in February 2009.

The Company had planned to sell unbeneficiated ore prior to commissioning its Stellite processing plant. However, subsequent to the first blast in July earlier this year, the Company has stockpiled the ROM while securing a contractor owned crushing and screening plant, which has allowed the Company to sell partially beneficiated chrome ore. As a result of selling screened and crushed chrome ore instead of unbeneficiated ROM, Chromex increased its anticipated revenue by 75% while increasing its operating cost by only 8%.

The increase in the planned production rate at Stellite to 70,000 ROM tpm, will require a similar increase in the capacity of the processing plant. Chromex expects to have the enlarged plant commissioned by the beginning of February 2009.

Chromex CEO Russell Lamming said, "We are delighted to have sold our first crushed and screened chrome ore during September. This exceeded our timetable of selling beneficiated ore by the end of 2008. The increase in the planned production rate allows us to produce and sell more chrome into the current buoyant chrome market."
