Off Topic vs. On-Topic

Some interesting discussion today that hopefully will not divide the board. I find myself riding the fence on the "to U.S. or not to U.S." discussion as I have tremendous respect for both Coswil and GeoProf. My overall knowledge would be stunted for not having read their posts over the past months.

There are three primary ways in which we can communicate with each other on this site. The first is through regular board postings. The second through the OT: discussion postings listed off the NOT portal menu. The third being direct messaging.

While there are formal standards of conduct that we agree when joining this board, we are a community of posters who have come to form a set of norms which are generally uncommunicated yet practically followed.

Some of these norms include:

- allow another person to make a mistake in a post as long as the mistake is not a harmful attack on another person.

- provide an apology when one has wronged another member through a post or otherwise inappropriately vented to the board.

- provide excellent DD when stating what is believed to be facts and add "in my opinion" if it is just that.

- comment on posts that require clarity, source of facts, or have cross over the grey line in terms of facts.

- support each other as shareholders in good and bad times.

It would be silly to create a formal list of group norms as we are all adults (most of the time at least) and were generally raised in a civilized manner. We all have our own expectations and preferences as to what we spend our time reading on this board. With differences there is potential conflict and my time on here has shown that with only a few exceptions (notably absent), most posters on here have been able to resolve differences of opinion and even personal differences over time.

For my two cents, I prefer to hear all information related to Noront including it's properties, it's JV partners, it's neighbors, it's suppliers, it's customers, the political environment in which it operates, the local environment and laws in which it must work (including both environmental and aboriginal), the price of commodities, geological explanations, financial explanations, market considerations, investing information, analysis, theories ....

All of these things provide the knowledge that could make or break an investment decision.

I have mentioned on here that I once owned Tahara. They had a web site and regular NRs on SEDAR that provided basic information. Much like Noront has. But it was the SH board (minus the unashamed pumpers and dumpers) that led me to information I really needed in order to make an investment saving decision and sell at 1.00 two years ago rather than today's announced $0 (they are bankrupt). I spent an evening researching winter roads and the company that provides these services and found information about a road blockage due to a trailer sinking and the resultant limited ice road season which (as it turns out) caused the company costs to rise as they had to fly in deisel supplies rather than truck them in. But this is likely OT.

My point here is that we have many intelligent posters on here and a few cheerleaders who say "good post" and all are needed. Anything that can be somewhat related to what Noront is doing, the environment it is operating in, the companies it is partnering with, and even the people working at the mines are things I want to know about. One never knows what piece of information might make a difference to one's decisions to buy, sell, or hold and the piece of mind that comes with making one of those decisions. To be frank, I have taken more comfort in the fact that Noront is at $1.58 in light of what I have learned about the causes of the current market failures than I would have if Noront was being manipulated down to $1.58 in a very bullish world market. The first can be rationalized. The second cannot. I am actually smiling today as another bank went under (Wachovia), all their shareholders lost $$, yet I am still in a good investment I believe with Noront. And Noront will likely still be around tomorrow and the day after.

I would prefer to see this site dedicated to information of any kind that is related to Noront and that according to my definition above is a broad spectrum. But there are some less useful posts that may not be as necessary, such as the share price of another company at a particular point in time or the cost of coffee in Chile.

As long as we are learning this site is 1000% better than what we had before the Agoracom a year ago. Now lets get that 1000% share price increase we have been waiting for!

M1.
