All they have to do is stop short selling.... Then there will be no downside price movement objective for the short sellers.

The short selling provides the oportunity for this kind of meltdown... individually and collectively the objective is to destroy a companies value and steal investors profits....

This has been going on for decades in the resource sector... now that mainstream wallstreet see the destructive forces involved they want immediate action.
