As a knowledgeable member pointed out to me via a PM, the labs choice certified referance material to be used is not done based on a manual analysis but rather by the assay request form submitted with each sample (ie. please analyze this core for the following metals etc.).

Appologies for the erroneous statement in my original post.

At the end of the day I guess the exact nature of the errors is pretty much a mute point. Important thing is that they were caught, procedures fixed and now we can all look forward to seeing the results soon.
