By bidding that many shares they would raise attention and possibly the SP. By keeping the price artificially low for months and bidding small lots every day for 3-4 months, they can accumulate a large position without those effects. Do not get fooled by small lots. Done long enough on a consistent basis for months can result in very large accumulation of shares all this without raising suspicion and keeping the price low.
