Norilsk launches new English language website in last two weeks - Coincidence?

Folks, Norilsk wants to take over Noront and the Ring of Fire so bad that they have started an English language website two weeks ago to convince all English speaking investors that they are really nice people. I'm going to paste the home page below (you can see the start date at the bottom of the web page). Now to get the full flavor of this you need to think of some movie you've seen with people speaking English with Russian accents. For example, if you ever saw "Red Heat" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Belushi, that will work. But, Dr. Zhivago or some other might work for you. Notice in the text pasted below of the "home page" the lack of the English article 'the'. When we, in English, talk about something specific, we say "the". Most Russians who learn English as a second language leave that out. You will notice this quirk in the following page from the home page of what they are now calling "Norilsk Nickel", if you read carefully (and please read with a Russian accent). My point or suggestion about this is that it coincides with Norilsk beginning staking operations at the Ring of Fire. Just like Canadian companies want to try and smooth over things with the native Indian populations in Canada when they are developing a mine, so are the Russians trying to do the same thing now with Canada. They've not only got to convince stockholders, but more importantly for them, they must convince the Canadian government that they would be good owners. CVRD (or Vale), out of Brazil, has already proved their 'good citizenship' value at the former Inco properties, and would be easily welcomed by the government to buy out and own and run what Noront has discovered. Norilsk is not in the same boat. The point is, this sophmoric attempt by Norilsk at an English language website shows that they are going to be a big-time serious bidder for our company's properties at McFaulds. That is good, in the sense that it will force CVRD into a bidding war with Norilsk, and drive our stock price higher. How it might affect global politics, I leave up to the political analysts. Okay, here it is (and remember, read it with your best Russian accent and notice the bad English due to their lack of using the definite article "the" where appropriate).

New corporate website of MMC Norilsk Nickel

Today MMC Norilsk Nickel (Norilsk Nickel or the Company) launched its new corporate website www.norilsknickel.ru/en (or www.nornik.ru/en). The new orderly structured site designed in a more colorful and stylish fashion contains more sections dedicated to important areas of the Company’s activities.

The primary reason for the website upgrade is the Company’s commitment to implementing best corporate governance and information disclosure standards in its new capacity of a global player.

From now on website sections will feature detailed information about the Company’s overseas operations including Stillwater Mining Company and assets in Finland, Australia, South Africa and Botswana to reflect the global scale of MMC Norilsk Nickel’s activities and its presence in the world’s major mining and metal production regions.

Investor Relations section was substantially expanded and its key content is now displayed on the main page for better user convenience. Subsections about the Company’s securities offer more information including not only reports on current market value of MMC Norilsk Nickel’s shares but also the historical trade curves. A new Investor Calculator service helps calculate the current return on the Company’s shares.

In conformity with globally accepted practices, Sustainable Development section provides data that contribute to comprehensive understanding of the social responsibility principles applied by the Company and describes Norilsk Nickel’s major projects aimed at reducing environmental impact of its production operations.

For additional user convenience the main page has a special module with links to all key internet resources of the Company: corporate magazine and blog, Norilsk Nickel sports website, children’s resource Nickelca and Job and Career section.

According to Elena Kovaleva, Director of Public Relations Department, Norilsk Nickel, Russia’s major public miner and metal producer, has always demonstrated the highest level of informational openness and transparency. Expert RA agency and MICEX in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers named the previous version of the Company’s website the industry’s best resource in 2007.

“The high appreciation of our achievements will not keep us from setting even higher standards and improving the informational toolkit of the Company. This is why we upgraded the website to make it a more convenient and useful resource for all persons interested in learning more about MMC Norilsk Nickel,” Elena Kovaleva said.

The new corporate site of MMC Norilsk Nickel was developed by Aplex Company.
