My reading of his comment is that a comment was made which leads him to believe the Prof might be there but can't confirm that so it's very much a rumour at this time.

It's likely that a call to Noront's office could confirm or deny this because they would have to know if he, the Prof, is up there even if someone else is paying for his trip.
