I read an article on a study done with, I think, 12 student traders. They were all taught to use exactly the same tactics and technics that had proved to be continuously successful, or at least they made more money than they lost. When the students went out on their own, only two were successful as ten of them had abandoned the principles taught to them. They could not overcome their emotional biases not to mention the greed /fear gremlins. It really is hard to follow a trading discipline once the emotions get in there. One really has to know him/herself to know what they are capable of, particularly when things get intense. I have learned much about myself in this process.

I would like to comment that holding out for the big bucks isn't necessarily a demonstration of greed or one's inability to control it. It certainly could be the case if shooting for the top is the result of abandoning one's original plan, but it can simply be a calculated risk one is willing to take to maximize ones profit. If one sees a high reward to risk ratio in holding for the top and it is based on D.D., acknowledging the potential for loss and being able to deal with it, then I don't see it as greed. It is just another approach to making profit.... I guess you'd call it going long.

I personally think we've got a real winner in NOT and I suspect we will all gain from our investment. As opposed to being totally long, I will likely keep a core position and try to catch some dips using a handful of shares to play with ... and of course take some profits at points to pay some of lifes expenses. I don't think I've ever really felt greedy about NOT. I believe in it, and I think my actions are as logical as they can be for me, given that I'm playing in educated gambling. I did have a discussion with my wife in the beginning about the possibility of losing it all and we reconciled ourselves to this ..... but needless to say there is no anticipation of that coming to fruition. I'd have to say it is really critical to not need the money you are putting out there, but if you do and you happen to win big, that's really living life on the edge. I hope all who are doing this win big..... and then move to a greater position of safety for the future.
