I agree with your theory just to add that I think they are setting up a pattern of selling like you described after a rise in the share price to lure others to play along and do the same thing. Sell their precious shares after a gain thinking they can buy back in later. They likley track how successful they are one day they will buy all the stock on offer and the little guy will loose his position.
