I don't think that months salary is appropriate to guess the costs. The drilling contract with take in wages, equipment costs, equipment repair, return on capital, profit etc. So wages really mean nothing unless one is looking for a job.

Years ago I had friend that were drillers and the money was excellent overall, but mainly because of the long hours, and production bonuses.
