Thank you Canada!
The majority of my investment money has been in Canadian companies since 2003. There is a big and growing problem down here with regulators. I have an interest is a small gold producer in northern California on the western side of the Sierra Nevadas.
When there was an accident in the mine a few years back a good man lost his life. A political district attorney's group came into the sparcely populated area and convinced the resident DA to file manslaughter against the company president, mine manager and the company which the group prosecuted. All types of legal problems followed. The charged people and mine were acquitted due to the group's mishandling of a Grand Jury. Now, the attorney group is filing for expenses from the employees of the mine and the company for defending themselves and shareholders. The mine has suffered and even the State Supreme judges ruled in favor of the attorney organization. Thank god for Canada! Just last week the mine had to lay off its miners as expenses have gotten far out of line with a slow period of gold discovery. The mine is a pocket mine which naturally has its slow periods.
Recently. the House of Representatives has voted to collect royalties from mining operations down here. It still has to go to the Senate and on to the President for final approval.
The politicians down here have their heads in the sand. Quebec and Ontario know how to utilize their resources for the public's benefit while the lawmakers down here are buffoons.
Thank God for Canada!
