Jondefur, day trading maybe not, but swing trades have been extremely lucrative for me. I hold a substantial position that are untouchable. Then an additional amount that I trade on pullbacks. A sort of bonus round.

I feel that I can do this because ultimately the direction of the stock is up IMO. I also feel comfortable doing so whenever the stock has been beaten down or there has been a lull in the news. Generally stocks do not rise in a straight line no matter how good their prospects, of course there are some exceptions.
