Polylabel,
This narrative relates the beginnings of voisey bay... at this beginning of their story, they knew as much as we did after the first few holes. Like the voisey bay story 'further geological studies' are going on right now. And we've only been at this about two months! I don't see how we can rule out anything at this point. But I'd love to hear your arguments.
------- story ---------------
In late 1994, four diamond drill holes were bored into the western part of this
anomaly through a total of 415 metres of rock. The prospectors were excited by what they saw, because the drill core samples contained visible concentrations of nickel and copper sulphides. The best hole had a 71 metre thick intersection with the orebody containing 2 percent nickel and about 1.5 percent copper.
Further geophysical surveys showed that the anomaly continued to the east, where it widened into an egg-shaped feature called the Ovoid, about 300 metres across. In early 1995, drilling results on the Ovoid were even more exciting than the first round of drilling. The orebody proved to be a thick zone of 100 percent sulphide minerals. Later in 1995, deep drill holes about a kilometre from the Ovoid revealed yet another deposit called Eastern Deeps. (Another significant deposit to the west of the Ovoid, called the Western Extension, was subsequently discovered late in 1996.)
