This is not the first case of a SH poster being sued.

There was a case in 2006 whereby a basher posted bad information about the company.  A lawsuit was initiated by the president after the stock dropped quite significantly for no apparent reason.  The only bad information or bashing was by this one individual.

Anyway, not only was he sued, but he was charged with defamation of character.  I believe they traced him back using IP addresses, but it has been awhile.  The key is that just because you have an alias on a site and use fake contact information does not mean that a person can break the law.

The case was settled.  If I remember correctly, the defamation charges resulted in a fine and the person had to make a public apology on the blog as part of the lawsuit settlement.

I will try to find out the name of the poster and company involved in order to provide more detailed information.

It does happen though.  The paid bashers know the rules and speak in half truths and opinions.  Those without a clue state false so-called facts and slander the president of a company.

When push come to shove, some of these company executives will fight back when provoked.  Especially when the share price is falling.  It is good to see people held accountable for their actions, even if that includes typing on a blog.  It is after all a public forum no different than a newspaper.

That's all for today.  I am taking the day off from my musings.  I hope to have another estimate of SP value based on what has been provided so far (to the chagrin of a couple of posters on here who say it cannot be done.  I disagree and believe that analysts out there are doing this very thing given the information provided in the NRs such as grades, lengths, distances, drill angles ...).

Till then,

M1.
