the media - newsletters, financial tv, brokerage firms, etc

you will be seeing reports regarding noront going forward in many different media.

for newcomers to the investment world. a few things you will learn if you stay in the investment business. some newsletters (i am not referring to any newsletter specifically, just some newsletters) will promote a stock they acquired for their portfolio (aka "their book") and will in fact overpromote until they sell their shares, to the frenzied buyers they created - this is where most of their income is derived. on the other extreme some newsletter writers who MISSED a move, will talk a stock down in order to establish a holding, or to get their customers to feel better about missing a move because the writer was not early enough to notice.

when i write at the bottom of each of my posts:

"do your own homework" or "do your homework"

it has a very important meaning, it is repeated because it is so critical to your investment success. you need to understand many, if not most, of the advisors you rely on have their self interests above yours. this includes many well thought of newsletter writers, tv news announcers, financial newspapers, brokerage firms, etc. much of the written and broadcast "NEWS" you read is actually paid for publicity for someone with an agenda. sometimes your agenda and theirs will mesh. you need to be aware of what the real facts of the investments you are involved with so you can make sound business decisions related to your investments.

once again, i am making a broad general statement and am not addressing any specific writers of newsletters, brokerage firms, or tv or other media. just trying to help some of the newer investors understand some of the marketing techniques of securities and investments.

do your own homework.

be right and sit tight.

regards,

jeff
