I hope so. One of the big questions is will the US survive long enough for their dark white night, ie Obama, come to their rescue. What's more, has the policies of the past 7 years done irrepairable damage or can Obama turn things around?

Ultimately, I think it's win-win for gold. If the US continues on it's downward course, it won't be too long before the Gulf nations ditch their pegs to the USD and that will be good for gold. I could even see some countries return to a gold standard.

On the other hand, if Obama is able to right the ship even partially, demand for materials would stabalize and increase. Let's face it, even if the US has growth of 0.1% that means they're using 0.1% more stuff than they did the year before! Where meterials that are in short supply are concerned, they will continue to be in short supply.
