My third new recommendation this
month is Smash Minerals, a tightly
structured, well-positioned Yukon gold
play run by some of the same folks who
discovered Underworld Resources’
Golden Saddle deposit.
Founded by Adrian Fleming, and
helped along by prospector extraordinaire
Shawn Ryan, Smash features a
deep management team and a property
position that includes three targets
located in close proximity to both
Golden Saddle and Kaminak’s Coffee
gold project.
I participated in the IPO for the
company and a recent financing, but
have held back on recommending it in
the hopes that it would get cheaper.
Thanks to the recent turmoil in the market,
it has.
When looking for leverage from
junior equities, a tight share structure is
a sure way to generate explosive
returns. The relative dearth of Smash
shares outstanding means that any significant
news flow should deliver a
sharp spike to the company’s share
price.
Now, the broader market pullback
has come just as this well-funded company
has come across some intriguing
initial results from its Whiskey Gold
Property.
Located in the White Gold District,
adjacent to properties formerly held by
Underworld (and now held by Kinross),
Whiskey consists of 4,177 claims and
spans 846 square kilometers.
Geophysical surveying on the property
has outlined a number of regionalscale
structures. Combined with extensive
soil sampling and trenching programs,
this geophysical work has helped
the company to identify several new target
areas for drilling.
The fieldwork on Whiskey has
been both intensive and ambitious, consisting
of 15,000 grid soil samples,
2,500 trench samples, 2,000 rock grab
samples and 150 stream sediment samples.
From this work, the Bowmore Zone
has emerged. Located in Whiskey’s
northeastern portion, soil sampling has
outlined a zone that extends for 1,400
meters along strike. Along with the CC
and Bushmills targets, the Bowmore
Zone holds great promise.
Just how much promise will be
determined by a drilling program
recently begun at Whiskey. The 3,000-
meter program will primarily test
Bowmore and Bushmills and will be
overseen by much of the same technical
team that made the discovery at Golden
Saddle.
The addition of Smash Minerals
will help to bulk out our portfolio of
explorers in the Yukon, which is
arguably the hottest gold district on the
planet right now. Adding to the company’s
allure is the fact that it’s managed
by the same people who brought us
Underworld Resources and who, in fact,
can lay claim to starting the 21st century
gold rush in the Yukon.
With a market cap under C$25 million,
Smash Minerals was designed to
be tight from the beginning. We’re finally
getting the weakness in the company’s
share price that I’ve been waiting
for and current trading levels look like
an excellent entry point.
