New Vision - New World - New Resources
Nautilus Minerals is the world’s leader in exploration and development of seafloor massive sulphides (SMS) containing high grades of copper, gold, silver and zinc.
Both Anglo American (11%) and Teck Resources (6%) are major investors. We are well positioned to develop the seafloor mineral industry with over 450,000 km^2 of seafloor tenement applications / grants in the South Pacific and $196,000,000 cash equivalent as of Mar 31, 2010.
Our flagship Solwara 1 project in Papua New Guinea (south pacific) is the highest grade copper-gold resource in the world, to our knowledge. We plan to use existing offshore oil and gas technology to extract the resource, unlocking the vast potential of SMS mineralization worldwide. Engineering of the offshore mining equipment is well advanced and the environmental permit is granted.
Recently we announced completion of an independent Project Definition and Cost Study which can be downloaded from our homepage. The study key points are:
- Capital costs for the Offshore Production System: US$383 million (including a 17.5% contingency).
- Average operating costs to the Port of Rabaul: US$70 per tonne (including a 10% contingency)
- Production commencing at 1.2 million tonnes per year (dry equivalent) with capacity to ramp up to 1.8 million tonnes per year.
- 30 months to complete the build of the Offshore Production System once approved by our Board
