Boeing recently built an assembly plant in Charleston, South Carolina, and has hired over a thousand workers for the plant.
The NLRB has petitioned congress to allow them to close the plant down in Charleston, because Boeing Corp. is based in a "closed shop" in Seattle, Washington. Meaning all employees of Boeing Corp. are required to be represented by their union, and as such are required to pay "Union Dues".
South Carolina is an "open shop" state, which means it is a "Right To Work" state. The new employees have a federally mandated right to organize, but membership to a union is at the discretion of the individual employee. Congress is actually entertaining the idea presented by the NLRB, even though the #1 goal of the nation, right now, is to create jobs.
Go figure that one out.
