I know, so I'll bet you, Obamas' biggest idea toward economic recovery rests with more highway construction. Resulting in greater urban sprawl. More folks moving farther away from the goods and services of the cities, while placing greater reliance on the automobile, which in turn adds even more pressure to dwindling oil reserves, adding even more reliance on imported oil, which puts even more pressure on energy prices, while increasing carbon emissions.

Forget the highway construction. Focus should at least go to rebuilding or repairing bridges. Highway construction is an economic "Black Hole". I ask you, "How does highway construction make any sense ?" (apart from DOT jobs and auto manufacturing.)

Besides, the economic pay backs, in the form of temporary employement, don't even come close to compensating the cost of construction, which the nation can ill-afford to begin with. Then, what are the builders' going to do when the highways are finished ? Unemployment insurance ?

If I were President, and needed to create long lasting jobs, I'd start pushing high speed rail system construction and infrastructure improvements, with emphasis on mass transportation. Creating permanant jobs, reducing fossil fuel consumption, reducing carbon emissions and reducing Americas' city dwellers' dependance on the auto. As a bonus..high speed rail could potentially take some congestion out of air travel...a mode of transportation that really sucks.

We'll find out Thursday evening, when the President addresses the joint session of Congress.
