If you had problems with the census takers, you must be a gun owner. In 1970, there was an attempt to have every so many ( I think it was 1 in 8) homes fill out a census "long form." At the time, we lived in a town of 2200 people (Ohio) and my husband, who was a gun collector discovered that every gun owner he knew had received a long form.

When they came by to pick it up, I had filled out the names, sex and ages of every one in our household. The lady assured me that I had to fill it out completely or face the possibility of going to jail. I assured her that I would be willing to be a test case, but had no intention of providing the Feds with all the information they were requesting. Needless to say, there was never anything more to it.

I tell you this to indicate how long the camel has been trying to get his nose into the tent.

I've forgotten how many pages were involved, but they wanted every speck of information about our home.....not only a complete description of each room, but how many exits the house had. I never knew for sure why all that information was necessary, but I had my suspicions. So few people caved in, that they gave up on that request by the census bureau for a couple of decades, but I think they reinstituted that idea this year.
