What kind of subsidies do you receive from the government in your agribusiness?
We receive no subsidies from the government.
Why did the government tell you not to use those chemicals?
The government now requires me to certify with a pesticide applicators license on products that we previously could buy over the counter without a license. This allows them to receive more money for license fees and it enables them to audit my records and my practices so they can fine me if they find anything they consider to be wrong.
I use glyphosate for weed control. You might be more familiar with the Round-up brand name.
I use a minimal amount of insecticide on my Christmas trees usually one application in the summer. The insecticides I use are approved for use on food crops. The application method is by ground application equipment I invented. This reduces any drift and gives me excellent control on getting the product where it needs to be. The effeciveness wears off over time so by the end of September Aphids can eat on the tree again without dieing.
The farmers who are really effected are farmers that grow produce. They have to compete with produce imported from foreign countries that have no restrictions on chemicals.
