You seem to speak of "creationism" as though the ONLY interpretation of it is the specific literal interpretation of the bible.

While I don't deny there are many that adhere to a very strict literal 7 days and thousands of years instead of billions interpreration, there are MANY more who believe in creationism and still believe in science and its pursuit. There are many who see that long before science learned much about what it has about the universe and the "evolution" of our planet, there was a story committed to paper that very much parallels these things we now believe science has "proven". When you stop and think about that, doesn't it make you scratch your head and wonder HOW did the writer(s) of Genesis come up with a story that essentially parralels science's theory of the creation of our universe and the evolution of our planet?

While I am not one who supports the teaching of religious doctrines in public schools, I certainly don't think that it's out of line to provide students with "exposure" to this first "scientific theory" of creation, a "theory" that predates most of our scientific discovery by thousands of years and a "theory" that when removed from a specific literal translation is very much in-line with what science has "learned" along the way.

While we hear continuous opposition and discrediting of "creationism" under the guise that it contradicts what science has "learned", I find it very interesting that we hear so little about the fact that this creationism "fairy tale" as some like to scornfully refer to it, has in fact essentially proven to be the road map of what science has "learned". IMO, when "in the name of science" one discredits a theory rather than explore it and test it, it seems to speak less to the pursuit of scientific truth than it does to an alternative agenda that is focussed on pushing God out of our lives and our world. IMO, it's mankind's hubris and ignorance that has separated God and science, not somekind of scientific discovery or truth.
