Yeah, I'm in the age group that remembers Huff and Bednarik too...and later Nitztke too.
Bednarik, now there was one tough man...played both ways ...was the center for the Eagles at times also. And if you're old enough you'll never forget that hit he put on Gifford that almost killed him. No one will forget Nitztke and great Packer teams loaded with hall of famers on both sides of the ball. The bald eagle of the Packer defense.
But there was something special about Huff...remember, when Lombardi came back to coach the Redskins in '69 one of the first moves he made was to bring Huff out of retirement and made him player coach for two years. Lombardi knew what a leader and athlete this man was. they don't make 'em like that anymore, a tough as nails mountaineer from the coal mines of WV. He was special.
